Washington DC
When Syska Hennessy’s Washington D.C. office opened in 1963, it was the start of the firm’s geographical expansion beyond New York City. The office had a promising beginning with three large projects: air-conditioning design for the Bureau of Printing and Engraving and two new buildings at Duke University’s D.C. campus. Since then, we’ve expanded significantly, and today provide services for organizations across a wide range of sectors, including mission-critical, commercial, mixed-use, healthcare, and science and technology.
Located two blocks from the White House, Syska’s D.C. location provides our team with convenient access to industry partners and clients. Our proximity to our Richmond office also expands our geographical scope deep into Virginia.
Clients & Projects
Our team works regularly with a long list of noteworthy clients in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region, including the U.S. General Services Administration, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), and several prominent financial, telecommunications, and multinational technology companies. Our dedication to D.C. is exemplified by our leadership in the city’s new Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS) benchmarking initiative, which helps building owners and landlords achieve healthier and more sustainable building environments for the city’s residents, workers and visitors. Our critical facilities team in D.C. is also playing a key role in Northern Virginia’s data center market.

Featured Project/client
Our D.C. team’s recent noteworthy work includes the new East Campus Building 4 (ECB4), located on the National Security Agency (NSA) base in Fort Meade, Maryland for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). ECB4 (to be named The Kenny Center) is a brand-new 750,000-GSF operations building designed to be modern and secure. This cutting-edge military construction project provides new office and collaboration space, as well as a fitness center and remote learning areas.
Culture
Our location, in D.C.’s hub of tourism, government, and business, allows our team to immerse ourselves in the exciting vibe of the D.C./Maryland/Virginia area. The team has its own culture and brand of camaraderie that enhances the great work performed by staff. We also actively participate in Syska’s firm-wide programs such as SHAPE, SENSE, and the Green Team, and support local communities through volunteering and collaborating with the DC Capital Food Bank, Canstruction, DC Central Kitchen, and ACEC.
